A bit greener together
Greetings and welcome to the Britain Unplugged community site. This is where we get a bit greener as a nation, one recycled can of Panda Cola at a time.
Come in, take a look around and even get involved in a challenge. It's good for the soul and will make you practically irresistible to everyone you meet*

Wine footprint!
July 1st, 2009 by rubyru
I love a tipple of an evening but I’ve always steered clear of new world wines. I figured drinking our fab European wines would mean less ‘wine miles’ and a lower carbon buy. I was talking to the chaps at my local wine shop, and they suggested that the internal carriage of wine within European countries might have more of an impact than shipping. I wasn’t that convinced! So I’ve searched out a couple of interesting blogs to find out more.
Check out Live Science and Dr Vino. These guys also look at other important factors - not just miles. But I’m still a bit confused - any handy hints on buying wine with a low carbon footprint?
ps. I’ve recently taken up a liking for Chapel Down sparkling wine - made in the UK. Strange but true! it’s a gem. Surely that must be a low carbon buy!

Green playlist
June 24th, 2009 by rubyru
This Recycle Week, I thought I’d create m’self a green playlist to listen to while I’m recycling, reducing and reusing!
My husband’s top five songs with a green theme are:
REM - Green (obvious)
Kermit the Frog - It’s not easy being green (ha ha)
The The - Lonely Planet (”if you can’t change the world, change yourself”)
The Libertines - What a waster (Doherty eh? putting the mental in environmental)
Duran Duran - Planet Earth
Not sure what that says about him! Got any suggestions on what I could add to the green playlist?
PS. top ‘reducing’ tip - buy in bulk. the bigger the bottle or box, the less waste you’ll create in the long term. So no variety packs for us!
